2021-2022 COVID Mitigation Plan

OUR COMMITMENT

Our commitment to our students, staff, and families:

  • Health and Safety - We have put protocols and procedures in place to keep our students and our staff as healthy and safe as possible. Our goal is to keep school open by practicing proper health and safety procedures.

  • Learning - We will provide full in-person instruction five days a week for students and provide our students a rigorous and high quality academic experience.

  • Flexibility - We will continue to monitor the health of our students and staff and adjust our plans when new information becomes available..

  • Equity - We will meet the needs of all students throughout these fluid and uneasy times.

2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR PLAN

Learning environment protocols and procedures regarding the COVID virus must be fluid as it relates to community transmission levels.  Any protocols or procedures are subject to change at any time.  Families will be notified of changes as they occur.  We have monitored local data trends and past outcomes to create our 2021-22 plans. As we have learned, local transmission trends can change quickly and will result in a change of procedures within the school.

Close Contact Tracing and Quarantine

Parents will be notified if a student in a specific classroom or grade level has tested positive for COVID.  However, the district will not be identifying close-contacts.  Families should monitor for symptoms and determine if they will self quarantine their child.

All unvaccinated household members of COVID positive individuals must quarantine. Students may return to school:

  • After day 10 without testing

  • After day 7 upon a negative COVID test (test must occur on days 5-9)

COVID Positive Cases

We will partner with the Sheboygan County and Ozaukee County Health Departments in sharing information and communicating procedures to individuals impacted by a positive test for COVID.

Anyone with a positive COVID test must remain quarantined for 10 days.

All unvaccinated household members of COVID positive individuals must also quarantine. Students may return to school:

  • After day 10 without testing

  • After day 7 upon a negative COVID test (test must occur on day 5 or later)

In Person Learning

Students will be in school 5 days/week for in person learning.  There will be no virtual learning format.

Onsite COVID Testing (Symptomatic

Students Only)

We will have the ability to do onsite COVID antigen testing and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for students. Parents will be notified prior to any testing. No testing will be conducted without a signed parent permission form. Testing will be performed by the District Nurse or our assigned health care provider partner.

Symptomatic students with no known contact can get an antigen (rapid result) COVID test here at school. Students can return to school with a negative result.

Symptomatic students with a known contact should quarantine or have a full polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test prior to returning to school.

Students who have lost their sense of taste or smell will be required to go for a full polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test in order to return to school, or quarantine for the full 10 days.

Symptomatic Individuals

Any individuals with the following signs and symptoms should not enter the building:

  • Temperature of greater than 100o F/38o C

  • Active productive cough

  • Frequent sneezing

  • Non allergy runny nose

  • Flu like symptoms

STUDENT SAFETY MITIGATION STRATEGIES

The following mitigation measures have been put in place at this time to limit the spread and to protect students, families and staff for a safer learning environment.

Air Purification System

In 2021 the District installed an air purification system located in each cafeteria to kill viruses, bacteria, and mold.

Cafeteria

Students are encouraged to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before eating. Tables will be sanitized between groups.

Classrooms

Hand sanitizers will be stationed in classrooms and cleaning supplies will be provided to wipe down desks and other shared surfaces.

Hand Washing and Sanitizing

We encourage regular hand washing throughout each school day.  Hand sanitizer stations are located in every classroom as well as throughout the school.

Masks

Masks will be optional for all. We encourage staff and students to wear masks as they feel appropriate and to consider them especially if unvaccinated.

If we have a significant increase in positive cases here at school, or are seeing a significant increase in community spread, masks may be temporarily required for all students and adults in our schools.

Physical Distancing

This past year we have learned how important personal space is to one’s health and well being. The goal is to offer a quality learning experience while maximizing physical distancing as much as possible throughout the day. We will do our best to provide students with their own personal space.

Playground

The playground will be fully opened to play for all students.

Restrooms

Students will be expected to use proper handwashing practices. The bathrooms will be cleaned and sanitized daily.

Symptomatic Students and Staff

We continue to encourage all staff and students to stay home if symptomatic.  Everyone should do a self check of symptoms each morning before school.  Individuals with the following signs and symptoms should stay home:

  • Temperature of greater than 100o F/38o C

  • Active productive cough

  • Frequent sneezing

  • Non allergy runny nose

  • Flu like symptoms

Water Fountains and Water Bottles

Students will be allowed to fill personal water bottles at touchless bottle filling stations at our water fountains. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle each and every day.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Community Spread of COVID within the Schools

If significant numbers of students within a classroom or grade level test positive for COVID, all learning options will be reconsidered, including virtual options.  A learning plan for the students and teachers will be developed with the best interest of all in mind and will be uniquely tailored to the situation.

Field Trips, Assemblies, and Large Group Activities

Field trips, assemblies, and other large group activities may be scheduled for the 2021-22 school year, pending approval by the building principal.

Quarantined Students

There will be no virtual learning options for students.

Students in quarantine will be able to access lessons through Google Classroom, SeeSaw, or other materials provided by classroom teachers during the absence.

Visitors and Volunteers

Visitors and volunteers with a purpose will be welcome in the building.  Please check in to the front office upon your arrival. All volunteers may need to submit to a background check.  Any individuals with the following signs and symptoms should not enter the building:

  • Temperature of greater than 100o F/38o C

  • Active productive cough

  • Frequent sneezing

  • Non allergy runny nose

  • Flu like symptoms

ATHLETICS

Competition Schedules and Event Attendance

Athletic events are currently following traditional competition schedules.  As of now, there are no restrictions on spectator attendance or requirements of masking.

All Big East schools are following these same protocols and continue to meet and discuss changes as needed.

The WIAA has met with DHS and the medical advisory and will provide further communication to member schools.
