Cyber Safety for Parents Interact

Interact is an online, interactive e-course created for parents and guardians to complete with their children with the goal of sparking basic online safety discussions in the home. This 30 minute module provides parents with the opportunity to review their own tech use to set a good example; interactive activities to complete alongside their children; and follow-up resources and activities to keep the discussions going.
This e-course gives parents the opportunity to set themselves up as the trusted adult in their child’s life. If the child sees something online they don’t understand or that makes them uncomfortable, they know they have someone to reach out to. The e-course even provides some ideas on how to start and continue these discussions, along with some bonus tips to help break the ice on awkward topics!
Be your child’s trusted adult. Interact, and stay safe!

CG-Belgium runners finish near the top

Ozaukee Press staff

The Cedar Grove-Belgium boys’ cross country team survived a muddy course at the Tiger Invite in Chilton last Friday, with a couple of runners losing their shoes.

But the Rockets took second of nine teams, scoring 86 points to defending Division 2 champion Valders’ 21.

Quinn Hoopman led the way by running the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 30.16 seconds and earned a medal.

The Rockets next went 17-18-19-20. Elliot Depies ran an 18:56.35. Bryce Ketterhagen ran an 18:57.92. Ben Fleuchaus ran a 19:00.87. Logan Ketterhagen ran a 19:07.36.

“Our 2-5 runners have been very tightly grouped the last couple of meets. That mentality will serve us well if we can maintain it,” coach Branden Langer said.

The girls took third with 86 points, behind Valders’ 76 and Luxemburg-Casco’s 77.

Karen Ibarra took third in 22:11.68.

Grace Voskuil was 12th in 23:06.06. Lyndsay Sass was 22nd in 24:17.09. Jacy Zajac was 26th in 24:49.3. Katie Mueller was 27th in 24:53.51.

Langer said the girls ran a better first mile but still held back a little too much.

“It is a work in progress, but I liked the way both teams competed, particularly during the last mile. There is still room for improvement, but I think we are on the right path,” he said.

The Rockets next run in a Racine St. Catherine’s invite at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Ozaukee Press Article - Inaccurate Information

Ozaukee Press Article - Inaccurate Information

The Ozaukee Press dated Thursday, March 15, 2018 included an article titled CG-Belgium School District didn't allow student walkout on March 14. The headline is simply not true. No Cedar Grove-Belgium student was prohibited from participating in the walkout as long as an excused absence was on file in respective school offices. The article failed to accurately represent the understanding and support that was provided to all students whether they remained inside a school building or outside a school building as part of a national school walkout that was held on March 14. The administration fully supported any student who had an interest in participating in the national school walkout. The Ozaukee Press was contacted regarding the inaccurate information. The Ozaukee Press indicated it intends to provide a correction with associated March 14th details in its next issue.

National School Walkout Event- CGBSD Response

Dear Parents and Guardians of Students of the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District,

The school shooting that took place in Parkland, Florida, which resulted in 17 students and staff losing their lives has rocked schools across the nation. As many schools grapple with the aftermath, students, staff, and community members are demanding action to help stop school violence. A number of local, state, and nationwide movements have been spurred as a result.

The CGBSD administration is aware of events that are planned around the country and in Wisconsin in response to the Florida shooting and the national conversation that has unfolded. A great deal of attention is currently focused on a national student “ walkout” scheduled for March 14, 2018, the one month anniversary of the Florida shootings scheduled for 10:00 am for a duration of 17 minutes; one minute for each life lost at Stoneman Douglas High School. The walkout was organized by Women’s March Youth EMPOWER in response to gun violence plaguing our schools.

Navy SEAL Commander Shane Anderson Shane Anderson

CGBSD recently invited local superintendents, law enforcement representatives, and buildings and grounds personnel to hear district parent, and Navy SEAL Commander Shane Anderson address school safety. Mr. Anderson shared ideas about safeguards and solutions, emergency action plans, staff training opportunities, and provided an opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions and share thoughts and ideas.

Thank you Mr. Anderson!

Elementary School Earns Honor School of Recognition

Congratulations to the elementary school staff and Principal Jeff Kondrakiewicz having earned a 2017-2018 Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition Award on the basis of being a high-progress school. In order to achieve high progress status, the school needed to meet the following criteria:

*fall within the top 10 percent of schools experiencing student growth in reading and mathematics; and
*have achievement gaps that are less than 3 percentage points between student groups or show evidence of reducing gaps greater than 3 percentage points.
This is the second year in the past three years where the elementary school has earned the Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition Award.
