The Cedar Grove-Belgium School District is dedicated to fostering the intellectual, moral, cultural, emotional, social, and physical development of all students in a secure environment thereby enabling them to function effectively in society as competent, productive, caring, and responsible people.
The measure of a great school district is rooted in its mission and values, the quality of its teaching, and the caliber of its students. Equally important to attracting and retaining the most talented students and staff in the 21st Century, is how well its facilities mirror and support the quality of its programs. Space that is ample, functional, and aesthetically pleasing promotes an educational environment that nourishes innovative teaching and learning, fosters respect, cultivates collegiality, instills school pride, and promotes a love for learning.
During the December 3, 2014 board meeting, the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District (CGBSD) Board of Education formally approved a proposal for the addition of a $1.45 million fitness center to be added on the north of the existing high school building. The fitness center proposal includes plans for the addition of a 4074 square foot fitness, weight, and cardio area; a 6172 square foot wrestling/multi-purpose area; two 693 square foot storage areas; and an upgraded locker room facility for school, athletic team, and community use.
Need for a Fitness Center:
For the continued quality of our physical education and athletic programs, as well as an upgrade to our community fitness programs and existing outdated weight room facility, a fitness center is necessary. The fitness center addition will provide more health and fitness course offerings as part of our district's physical education curriculum and increase space and accessibility to existing practice and recreational areas. Improvements will provide more space for weight and cardio equipment, a new, larger space for a wrestling practice area in the high school, more locker room space and larger lockers for athletic teams and community members, additional storage areas, and expanded recreational programs for our community members.
Summary of Project:
There are two phases as part of the fitness center project:
Phase I: Includes planning, construction and financing for the fitness, wrestling, multi-purpose, and storage areas; Spring, 2015 – Fall, 2015
Phase II: Includes the planning, financing, and acquisition of fitness equipment such as free weights and cardio equipment (treadmills, elliptical machines, and spinning bikes); Fall, 2015 – Winter, 2016
The CGBSD Board of Education and Administration are very cognizant of the support consistently provided to our school district by our taxpayers and we work hard to be financially responsible and prudent. The CGBSD Board of Education has determined the fitness center project is not going to be a referendum item. As a result, a plan to secure funding from outside resources by forming partnerships with business organizations and area foundations will be necessary. The CGBSD Board of Education is seeking your organization's interest in making a financial donation in support of the fitness center project. The school district's goal is to raise $600,000 through donations and naming rights associated to any aspect of the fitness center project. The granting of naming rights is associated to various levels of financial contributions. In addition to donations, naming rights, and fund raising efforts, the fitness center project will include financial support from the school district's general fund.
