The Ozaukee Press dated Thursday, March 15, 2018 included an article titled CG-Belgium School District didn't allow student walkout on March 14. The headline is simply not true. No Cedar Grove-Belgium student was prohibited from participating in the walkout as long as an excused absence was on file in respective school offices. The article failed to accurately represent the understanding and support that was provided to all students whether they remained inside a school building or outside a school building as part of a national school walkout that was held on March 14. The administration fully supported any student who had an interest in participating in the national school walkout. The Ozaukee Press was contacted regarding the inaccurate information. The Ozaukee Press indicated it intends to provide a correction with associated March 14th details in its next issue.
6th Grade students spent a day at JA BizTown and operated a bank, restaurant, city hall, retail store, newspaper and 7 other businesses. The students combined in-class learning with the day long visit to a fully interactive, simulated town. The 6th graders left with understanding the relationship between what they learned in school and their participation in the local economy. Click here for pictures!
Dear Parents and Guardians of Students of the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District,
The school shooting that took place in Parkland, Florida, which resulted in 17 students and staff losing their lives has rocked schools across the nation. As many schools grapple with the aftermath, students, staff, and community members are demanding action to help stop school violence. A number of local, state, and nationwide movements have been spurred as a result.
The CGBSD administration is aware of events that are planned around the country and in Wisconsin in response to the Florida shooting and the national conversation that has unfolded. A great deal of attention is currently focused on a national student “ walkout” scheduled for March 14, 2018, the one month anniversary of the Florida shootings scheduled for 10:00 am for a duration of 17 minutes; one minute for each life lost at Stoneman Douglas High School. The walkout was organized by Women’s March Youth EMPOWER in response to gun violence plaguing our schools.
CGBSD recently invited local superintendents, law enforcement representatives, and buildings and grounds personnel to hear district parent, and Navy SEAL Commander Shane Anderson address school safety. Mr. Anderson shared ideas about safeguards and solutions, emergency action plans, staff training opportunities, and provided an opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions and share thoughts and ideas.
Thank you Mr. Anderson!

THE NEW COMMUNITY RECREATION PROGRAM IS HERE and is looking to hear from YOU! The new program will focus on providing affordable activities, courses, and workshops for all age groups. I have attached a short survey to allow you the opportunity to share with me your opinions on what may be of interest to you and your family, and what you would consider attending. The results of the survey will determine what type of programming we will offer, beginning in the fall of 2018.
There are three components to the survey (please complete what is applicable to you and your family):
The survey should only take a few minutes to complete and your opinions are vital to shaping our initial offerings! I look forward to hear your ideas and with your help build a successful community recreation program.
Thank you for your time and cooperation in completing this survey.

Math and Social Studies just completed a cross-curricular unit on building colonies where students had to investigate colonial challenges and problem solve as they established their colony in America. In Social Studies, students analyzed, planned, and built colonies in groups according to real life situations, and in Math, they measured their resources according to project outlines. Students measured the perimeter and area of their land, water source, garden, and different buildings on their property. Additionally, students kept a running record of their balance to help manage their money and make smart investments. This tied in nicely to our unit on adding and subtracting decimals. In Math, we are currently working on multiplying and dividing decimals. In Social Studies, students are continuing the study of American History with the establishment of the 13 colonies and then they will move on to the American Revolution. Currently, we are examining the “Mercantile System” vs Free Trade/Capitalism, the Triangular Trade, and the start of Global Economy.
All students have been learning how to code Sphero robots in Science. Challenges have included creating Sphero games such as Hot Potato which introduces students to coding with loops, lights, variables and sounds. Students designed a helmet to protect a Sphero when dropped. Sensors indicated whether or not the helmet design would prevent the Sphero from a hard fall (concussion).
During CGB time enrichment activities include Lego robotics, the Green Screen, Arduino projects and building robots with Hummingbird. Approximately 50 - 60 students have enjoyed exploring these various activities throughout this school year. Problem-solving and perseverance are encouraged and practiced on a regular basis.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the students, staff, families, and all who were affected by the senseless tragedy that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.
Please be assured that while no none can plan for such a horrific event, CGBSD is doing and will continue to do everything we can to keep our students safe.

Our combined 7th & 8th Grade Bands performed the National Anthem for a Marquette University Women's Basketball game on Jan. 14th. The Bands played very well. We then watched MU beat Xavier University. Some of our students caught t-shirts and mini basketballs thrown into the stands. Students played a game on court shooting layup shots/playing tic-tac-toe for a prize between one of the quarters. We even got to meet the Marquette Golden Eagle. We were accompanied by 50+ band family members who cheered us on. A good time was had by all. Special thanks goes to Amy and her son Joe for their help.
